To My Readers And Column Friends
(Readers Comments Below)
The time has come for me to step away from the keyboard for a while. I don’t know if this is temporary or permanent because I have always enjoyed learning in this field. But I do need some time off without a deadline each month (I began writing articles for the original Iron Man a number of years before the publication of my first book so it’s been about 50 years of writing in this field.) The website will still be here with all of its 600+ articles, we’ll still be taking orders, and we’ll still be answering e-mail. Keep training and staying the course. Onward! Clarence

All I can say is, what a great run this has been! I can't tell you how much I have learned through the years (actually the decades!) from all of Clarence's books, videos and website articles. I still use all of it in my training today. I can trace just about every aspect of my current training to a Clarence tip or article.
I am so glad that you will keep the website up for all of the great wisdom from previous articles.
I look forward to keeping in touch with both of you!
Dan

Mr. Bass: For years, at the beginning of every month, I’ve eagerly opened up your website to read the new articles published each month. I fully understand your need to step away, as I am now in my 70s, but know that you will be missed. You have been an inspiration in my lifelong struggle to stay fit and healthy in a sometimes unhealthy culture. Thank you for your many years of opening up to us, and be well. Brett ***** Clarence, It doesn’t matter what other people say or think. Approval and disapproval are equally meaningless. What matters is what you know is right, and whether you do it.
I have enjoyed the first of the month for over 40 years to hear what you’re up to in fitness and in life lessons and maybe a book recommendation 😀. I’m glad my wife and I spent time with you 23 years ago. Enjoy the rest. You certainly deserve it. Rich ***** Clarence, I appreciate you as a role model. Thank you. Tim ***** I’m gonna be 79 in a few months …been following you for years and always look forward to your monthly updates….been working out since I was 13 yrs old…..as a high school freshman I was 4 foot 10 inches tall and weighed 88 pounds ….by the time I was 20 yrs old …..I was 5 foot 10 and 160 pounds…..could press 165 @8 reps and c&j 225…..back then it was …what do you Press and it wasn’t until late 60s you were asked what can you bench…lol….which was 300 @ 177 body weight….anyway I’m really gonna miss your updates…I still workout 3x a week despite being dinged up……thank you for all your articles ….advice…and motivation….hope you stay healthy and outlive JACK L. Billy ***** I want you to know that throughout my life, in all aspects, you have been the only influence, the only role model I can think of. I actually think about that all the time. You have been spot on with your core advice always. Every time I try something different, like adding more volume, or trying a new way of eating, I always go backwards. I realize that everything comes to an end. I have enjoyed, and benefited tremendously from tuning into your fitness journey monthly since 2003. I will miss doing that. Jeff
**** Clarence: Thank you so much for all you have contributed to the fields of health and fitness. Thank you also for keeping your site online as you step away from the keyboard. Your site and your books are a treasure trove of valid, honest, and very well thought-out information on every subject you have covered. Your time off (whether temporary or full retirement!) is very well deserved. You should be very proud of your “body of work”, in the written form and in the physical form! You are world class.
I’ll be 72 this week, still train 4-5 days a week and walk on off days. I regularly visit your site and frequently consult the 3 books I bought from you several years ago and the 4th one you were kind enough to throw in for free! You have had an exceptional career. Thanks again, and please also thank Carol…your #1 supporter….for all her valuable contributions. I wish you both the best. I hope you continue to post periodically with your take on things and also post to let us know how your training regimen may change beyond age 87! There are many people who would benefit from such valuable information on exercise, diet, and longevity. God bless you, Carol, and the family. You’ve done so much good!
Still training and staying the course, John *****
Thank you so much for your monthly columns and I can understand why you want to step away for a while. You’ve put up so much FREE information over the years, you’ve taught me so much and I’m really grateful for it. I will continue to read the articles on your website when I want to refresh my memory on certain topics. You will always be my go to guy for anything health and fitness related! Take care Andrew ( Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺)
***** Thank you for all your hard work and your dedication to bodybuilding knowledge; you will be missed David UK
***** Clarence and Carol,
May God bless the two of you in all of your future life events. I hope you will return to writing, but perhaps selfishly on my part. Your contributions have and will continue to benefit so many in their personal journey to better fitness and health. I know my life has been greatly influenced by the two of you. A simple thank you seems inadequate, but nonetheless perhaps the best I can muster at this time. Happy Trails! John ***** Clarence,
I hope this finds you in good health!
Even if the keyboard never beckons you again, you have done a great service to all that have seen, read and followed your wisdom over the years. I personally will miss reading your wisdom every month. I will be lost!! But alas all great things come to an end. If this is truly the end, I wish you and Carol all the best and hope life in all your remaining days treats you with joy, kindness and love!
Your friend, John *****
Hello Clarence I have followed you for 30 years, having purchased the Lean Advantage series and then Challenge Yourself. I've always loved your work and will greatly miss your monthly articles. God bless you Clarence and your wife Carol. Chris *****
I just wanted to thank you for being a voice of sanity all these decades. As health and fitness has devolved into a cesspool of grifters, your voice will be missed by many. I have been lifting since I was a teenager in the 1980s, and I imagine we followed many of the same routines over the decades. I will miss your monthly writings, but all good things must end.
Thank you again and best wishes!
Andy *****
Congratulations on your retirement! I sure will miss the monthly articles. I've been looking forward to them every month for 27 years.
Thank you!! Dean *****
Hi Clarence, It is unfortunate but understandable. I think you are one of the most important people in the fitness and bodybuilding world. With your long career, your know-how, and interesting articles and books, you are also one of the leaders in these fields.
Thank you for all those years (and still now with your site) of good information. I wish you many more years of enjoying life with Carol in the healthy lifestyle you preached yourself. Healthy regards, Robert from Belgium

Dear Clarence, You deserve the break. I've learned more from you than anyone else in this field. Thank you for the guidance in all these years. I probably would of given up on all this stuff if I hadn't stumbled upon you and your books back in the 80's. Your information just resonated with me. Thank you.
Steve ***** I hope you enjoy your lessened schedule. Love your website and I have all your books. So grateful your site is still up and running. And I am so happy that you have had such a long wonderful life. You do what many people don't. You have left a permanent legacy. And I will always respect and admire you. Look forward to whatever else you do manage to put out John
***** Clarence,
I have followed you for years. I read your column each month and have several of your books: Ripped, Lean for life and Great Expectations. I am 20 years younger than you 67, but you were an inspiration when I was younger and as I have aged. I still train based on your philosophy of aerobics & weights (love those tabatas) and follow a modified version of your eating plan. I drink more alcohol than you but no one is perfect:)!! Touch wood though I am doing well in terms of health, so THANK YOU!
Your stepping away is well earned but you will leave a void that will not be easily filled. What a treasure trove of information you have accumulated on the website though. I recommend it to friends all the time although I suspect that the level of detail and scientific depth may be a bit much for some.
I wish you and Carol all the best as you wind down your monthly commitments.
Kevin ***** Just read on your website that you are stepping away from writing articles. I hope it's only temporary. You do a major service to the world of fitness and strength training. Your broad experience and wisdom are valuable and worthy. Advice is cheap. Wisdom is rare.
Laszlo *****
