Many bodybuilders consume huge amounts of protein and focus on cutting carbs – both misguided practices, in my view – and overlook fiber as a key factor in becoming and staying lean. The importance of eating high-fiber foods is emphasized in all of my books.
In Ripped 2, I said, "The more fiber you eat, the leaner you're likely to be." Challenge Yourself includes this quote from the National Institutes of Health: "The best means of achieving a healthy weight include adoption of a healthy diet that is low in fat...and high in fiber...from whole grains and cereal, fruit and vegetables."
In his latest Weekly Health Update, Jeff Novick, RD LD/N ( a/k/a Chef Jeff), Director of Nutrition at the Pritikin Longevity Center in Florida, writes: "If there is any ‘nutrient' that people are deficient in, it is fiber."
For the latest information on fiber and weight loss, including the report of a major study published in the Oct. 27, 1999, issue of The Journal of the American Heart Association, Go Chef Jeff
